THE LAWS OF THE KINGDOM Lecture 3.
THE CHALLENGER TO GOD'S SOVEREIGN RULE
The original challenge to God's eternal Sovereign right to
rule is recorded in Ezek. 28:11-19, and Is. 14:12-17.
Lucifer's Sin consisted in 5 awful "I wills" against the
will of God. They are evidently various aspects of that one
sin .. The "I wills" are:
1. I WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN ...
He apparently proposed to take up his abode in the
third or the highest heaven where God and the redeemed
abide 2 Cor. 12:1-4.
Satan has no right either by position or redemption to
claim that sphere as the place of his abode. His self
seeking intention is disclosed in this declaration as an
outrage against the Creator's plan and purpose.
2. I WILL EXALT MY THRONE ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD ...
By this statement it is revealed that Satan, though
appointed to the gardianship of the throne of God,
aspired to possession of a throne of his own and to rule
over the Stars of God ... the angelic beings are
obviously in veiw ... The sinful chaacter of Satan's
purpose is apparent. TO SECURE A THRONE FOR HIMSELF.
3. I WILL SIT ALSO UPON THE MOUNT OF THE CONGREGATION IN
THE SIDES OF THE NORTH ...
The mount is a phrase which evidently refers to the seat
of divine government in the earth, (Is. 2:1-4) and the
reference to the "Congregation" is clearly of Isreal.
Thus this specific assumption seems to aim at a share
at least, (note the word also) in the earthly Messianic
rule.
4. I WILL ASCEND ABOVE THE HEIGHTS OF THE CLOUDS ...
Of upwards 150 references in the Bible to clouds, fully
100 are related to the divine presence and glory of God.
Satan is evidently seeking to secure for himself some of
the Glory which belongs to God alone.
5. I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH GOD ...
This may be considered the key to the understanding and
tracing of his motives and methods. In spite of the
almost universal impression Satan's ideal for himself
to be unlike God, he is here revealed as being activated
with the purpose of being like God. However, this
ambition is not to be like Jehovah the self-existent one
which no created being could ever be- but to be like the
most high, which title signifies the possessor of heaven
and earth. Gen. 14:19, 22.
Satan's purpose then is to gain authority over heaven
and earth.
EVALUATION
Each phase of Satan's Sin is an act of rebellion against
the constituted Authority of God and was motivated by a
covetous desire to appropriate that very Sovereignity for
Himself. Because of this sin, which brought about the
fall of Satan, a Kingdom over which Satan rules was
formed in opposition to the Kingdom over which God ruled.
He is pictured as: The God of this world - 2 Cor. 4:4
(Age).
The Prince of the Powers of the Air-
Eph. 2:2.
The Possessor of the Kingdoms of the
World - Matt. 4:8-9.
IN CONTRAST LET US TAKE A LOOK AT JESUS.
1. Seven steps to Humiliation -
1 Consecrated to humble Himself (v5)
2 Laid aside His divine form (v6)
3 Made Himself of no reputation (v7)
4 Took the form of a servant (v7)
5 Was made in likeness of men (v7)
6 Humbled Himself (v8)
7 Became obedient unto death (v8)
2. Seven steps to Exalation -
Phil. 2:7-11
1 God highly exalted Him (v9; Eph. 1:21)
2 Gave Him a name above all (v9)
3 At His name every knee must bow (v10)
4 Everything in heaven (v10)
5 Everything in the earth (v10)
6 Everything thing under the earth (v10)
7 Every tongue confess His Lordship to the Glory of God
the Father (v11)
Phil. 2:7-11
5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to
be equal with God:
7. But made himself of reputation, and took upon him the
form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself,
and became obedient unto death, even the death of the
cross.
(2) Sevenfold exaltation
9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him
a which is above every name;
10. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of
things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under
the earth;
11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.
